I grew up in Whittier, CA, I have been playing drums for as long as I can remember. The earliest memory I have though is when I was 6 and I would take my moms candle sticks and pretend they were drum sticks and play on chairs and on couches. The problem was I would do it in stores so my parents would have to buy all these candles, they could never use because when I was drumming on things I would break them.

My first drum set was bought by grandmother which was an old wood kit that had no bottom heads. That is when the obsession begun. I had it set up in my room and I had my stereo close by with the headphones and I started to play along with everything I heard. I would jam to the Cure, Oingo Boingo, Huey Lewis and the news, anything and everything just to get my time down and to start to create my sound.

In my freshman year of high school, I met my buddy Ruben who played guitar and we starting jamming together. He and I learned the importance of keeping time and listening to the people you play with. That friendship and playing together lasted 20years.

Then one day I found myself at Guitar Center, picking up new heads and sticks for a gig I had, I met an employee that would change my life forever. He was a guitar player and said he had a band and they were looking for a drummer. He said he already had a kit, rehearsal studio the whole nine. I thought to myself, I can just go and not have to set anything up and just play, damn…I can do this, I’ll check this out and play for a couple hours and that will be that. So I showed up I met the former bass player, jammed some tunes and low and behold……that “a couple hours” I thought, we wound up playing together for 4 years. The employee was Bobby Simons and that 2 hour session was the start of Edge Of August.
